1. BOTH EYES ADJUSTED FOR DISTANCE VISION.
These implants are designed for seeing in the distance only. You will need glasses fulltime for reading and intermediate tasks (and occasionally for distance). These lenses are covered by insurance.
2. ONE EYE ADJUSTED FOR DISTANCE AND THE OTHER EYE ADJUSTED FOR NEAR (MONOVISION).
The power of the implant is selected to purposely give one eye good distance vision, and one eye good near vision. Patients generally still need glasses a fair amount of the time. These lenses are covered by insurance.
3. FOR PATIENTS WITH HIGH AMOUNTS OF ASTIGMATISM.
This lens is known as the “Toric IOL”. By reducing your astigmatism with the implant, cataract patients are significantly less dependent on glasses after surgery. You will need glasses full-time for reading and intermdiate tasks (and occasionally for distance). This lens is not covered by insurance.
4. MULTIFOCAL / BIFOCAL, RESTOR, TECNIS IMPLANTS or CRYSTALENS.
This is the highest technology option for vision correction. The Crystalens, Restor, and Tecnis lenses offer the greatest opportunity for cataract patients to potentially live free from glasses. These lenses are designed to correct vision for near, intermediate and far distances. Although most patients are glasses-free most of the time, it is still possible that some patients will need glasses for some tasks some of the time. This lens is not covered by insurance.
